The site

A steep plot above the Sonoma Valley, facing west over vineyards and oak woodland. The brief was a single-level house that would make the most of the view without dominating the hillside.

The approach

A board-formed concrete base is set into the slope and carries the living spaces. Above it, a long timber roof cantilevers towards the valley, shading the glazing in summer and framing the evening light.

Inside, oak floors, raw concrete and full-height glass keep the palette short. The pool runs along the terrace like a line drawn between house and landscape.
